realme GT 8 Series Debuts in China: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, Ricoh Camera Collaboration, and Swappable Camera Module
realme has officially unveiled its latest flagship lineup, the realme GT 8 series, in its home market. The lineup consists of two models — the standard GT 8 and the more premium GT 8 Pro. The series introduces a combination of cutting-edge performance, advanced imaging, and a unique magnetic swappable camera housing for personalized aesthetics.
⚡ realme GT 8 Pro: Power Meets Innovation
The realme GT 8 Pro sports a 6.79-inch 1440p AMOLED LTPO display with a 144Hz refresh rate and an incredible 4,000 nits of peak brightness, ensuring sharp details and smooth motion. It also features an ultrasonic under-display fingerprint sensor and is rated IP66 / IP68 / IP69 for water and dust resistance — an uncommon triple certification for smartphones.
Under the hood, the GT 8 Pro is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, paired with realme’s own R1 graphics chip to enhance visual performance and gaming responsiveness. It offers 12GB or 16GB of RAM and 256GB to 1TB of storage options. The massive 7,000mAh battery supports 120W wired and 50W wireless fast charging, while software is handled by realme UI 7 based on Android 16.
📸 Ricoh-Tuned Camera System: Photography Reinvented
One of the GT 8 Pro’s key highlights is its collaboration with Ricoh, marking realme’s first co-engineered camera partnership. The main 50MP camera uses a 1/1.56-inch sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and is compatible with Ricoh GR’s 28mm and 40mm full-frame equivalent focal lengths.
The phone also features five Ricoh-inspired photography tones: Positive, Negative, High-Contrast Black & White, Standard, and Monochrome, designed to give users versatile creative control straight out of the camera.
The rest of the camera setup includes a 200MP 1/1.56-inch periscope telephoto lens offering 3x optical zoom and up to 12x lossless zoom, as well as a 50MP ultra-wide camera. On the front, there’s a 32MP selfie shooter.
🧲 Magnetic Swappable Camera Module: Personalization Elevated
Another standout feature of the GT 8 Pro is its magnetic swappable camera housing. Using a magnetic attachment system and two Torx screws for stability, users can easily replace the decorative camera module for a customized look.
realme offers several official designs, and to encourage creativity, it has even released the 3mf 3D model file, allowing users to design and 3D print their own camera module decos.
⚙️ realme GT 8: Flagship Power with a Practical Focus
The standard realme GT 8 shares many similarities with the Pro model, including the same 6.79-inch display and 7,000mAh battery. However, it is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip (non-Pro variant) and supports 100W wired charging only, with no wireless charging support.
For photography, the GT 8 retains the Ricoh-tuned 50MP main camera, but swaps the periscope lens for a 50MP telephoto camera and an 8MP ultra-wide lens. The front camera is 16MP, catering to casual photography and selfies.
