POCO F9 Series Launches in Malaysia — Starting from RM2,799

Xiaomi’s POCO has officially launched its F9 flagship series globally, with Malaysia among the first markets to get it. This year’s launch runs under the “UltraPower Unbound” theme, bringing two models to the table — the POCO F9 Pro and the higher-end POCO F9 Ultra. Both stick to POCO’s signature value-flagship formula, packing solid specs at a competitive price.

Design has also gotten more attention this round. The POCO F9 Ultra comes in a Dark Cherry wine-red finish with a textured glass-fibre back panel that feels premium to the touch. The POCO F9 Pro offers an eye-catching Aurora Green option with a back cover that glows in the dark, alongside a more classic silver-white colourway.

POCO F9 Pro

The Pro model features a 6.59-inch flat AMOLED display with an impressively high 185Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 4,500 nits, making for a smooth viewing experience.

Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V chipset. Like the standard 8 Elite Gen 5, it’s built on a 3nm process with the same third-gen Oryon CPU cores (up to 4.6GHz), the same Hexagon NPU, and the same 5G modem. The main difference lies in the GPU — the Adreno 840 has been retuned specifically to improve power efficiency during everyday multitasking and gaming.

For cameras, the F9 Pro packs a 200MP main sensor, a 50MP telephoto lens (2.5x optical zoom), and an 8MP ultra-wide, with a 32MP front camera for selfies.

Battery capacity comes in at 6330 mAh, supporting 100W wired and 50W wireless fast charging — enough for strong all-day endurance. On audio, POCO continues its Bose-tuned sound partnership, this time with a Bose 2.1 stereo system plus a dedicated woofer unit and Dolby Atmos support.

POCO F9 Ultra

Stepping up, the F9 Ultra gets a larger 6.9-inch AMOLED display, keeping the same top-tier 185Hz refresh rate and 4,500-nit peak brightness. It’s powered by the full Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, coupled with VisionBoost D8 chipset, giving it a noticeable performance edge over the Pro.

Its camera setup includes a 200MP main sensor with OIS, a 50MP periscope telephoto lens (5x optical zoom), and a 50MP ultra-wide lens, alongside the same 32MP front camera.

Notably, the Malaysian F9 Ultra ships with an 8,050mAh battery — slightly smaller than the 9,070mAh found in its China counterpart, the Redmi K100 Pro Max.

Still, that’s a generous capacity for most users, paired with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging, which should comfortably cover a full day of heavy use. The device also carries IP68 dust and water resistance.

Software & Launch Offers

Both models ship with Android 16 on top of HyperOS 3, with Redmi promising up to 4 major OS upgrades to keep the phones future-proof for longer.
