HUAWEI Pura X Max Launched in China: Wide Aspect Ratio Folding Phone starting from ~RM6378

Second generation of HUAWEI’s wide-aspect-ratio folding phone is unveiled today at China, namely the HUAWEI Pura X Max!

The naming itself already given us a hint of what it will be: a massively beefed up version of the original Pura X, with much better imaging system and performance.

The most distinctive feature of the Pura X Max is its use of an approximately √2:1 paper-like aspect ratio on both the outer and inner screens — a design Huawei says delivers a consistent, natural viewing experience regardless of whether the phone is folded or open.

The outer screen measures 5.4 inches, while the inner display unfolds to 7.7 inches. Both screens support 1–120Hz LTPO adaptive refresh rates, with peak brightness of 3,500 nits and 3,000 nits respectively.

Unlike its predecessor, the Pura X, which folded vertically, the Pura X Max opens horizontally. The result is a device that, when unfolded, resembles a compact tablet — making it better suited for productivity tasks, document editing, and media consumption.

Under the hood, every configuration of the Pura X Max runs Huawei’s in-house Kirin 9030 Pro chipset, paired with HarmonyOS 6.1. The system supports real-time ray tracing hardware acceleration, bringing a more console-like visual experience to mobile gaming.

On the camera side, Huawei is pushing its XMAGE imaging system hard on this device. The rear camera setup includes a 50MP ultra-aperture main sensor, a 50MP large-aperture periscope telephoto lens, a second-generation Red Maple true-color camera, and a 12.5MP ultrawide lens. Features such as XMAGE Smart Capture, portrait retouching, and 3D Live Photos are also on board.

The hinge has been significantly upgraded as well. The new Xuanwu Waterdrop Hinge increases screen accommodation space by 16% and improves drop resistance by 33%. The inner display also benefits from a triple-layer composite structure that boosts impact resistance by 50% and crush resistance by 20%.

AI capabilities are a major focus for this device. The Pura X Max ships with Huawei’s new “Celia Companion AI” — described as the industry’s first companion-style AI solution. It has already been integrated with a range of apps including Amap, Zhihu, DiDi, Baidu Maps, DingTalk, and Baidu. Supported AI functions include Celia Helper, Celia A2A Agent Collaboration, Celia Time Machine, Celia World Viewer, Celia Photo Editor, Celia Notes, Celia Digest, and Celia Smart Memo.

Huawei is also bundling a new M-Pen 3 Mini stylus with the device. The pen supports mid-air control, a scroll wheel menu, and features a built-in omnidirectional microphone. A dedicated smart button on the stylus can instantly wake Celia.

The Pura X Max comes in five colors — Phantom Black, Zero White, Stellar Blue, Olive Gold, and Vivid Orange — and is available in four configurations. The standard 12GB + 256GB model starts at RMB 10,999 (~RM6378), while the top-tier Collector’s Edition with 16GB + 1TB storage is priced at RMB 13,999.

HUAWEI Malaysia has yet to announce anything related to the Max’s local availability.
