Xiaomi has officially launched the 17T series in Malaysia today, May 28, with a global simultaneous event held in Vienna and a live stream on Xiaomi Malaysia’s official website. What makes this launch unusual is the timing — the T series has historically arrived in September, but this year Xiaomi pushed it forward by a full four months. The company is calling it “the biggest T Series upgrade yet,” and the specs largely back that claim up.
Two sizes for the first time

One of the first things to note is that the 17T and 17T Pro no longer share the same screen size, breaking from T-series tradition. The standard 17T comes with a 6.59-inch 1.5K AMOLED display at 120Hz (2756×1268), while the 17T Pro steps up to a larger 6.83-inch panel at 144Hz (2772×1280) with Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and 3840Hz PWM dimming for reduced eye strain. Both are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.
Different chips under the hood

The 17T is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra, while the Pro gets the more powerful Dimensity 9500 built on TSMC’s 3nm process, featuring an all-big-core CPU architecture with a peak clock speed of 4.21GHz and a Mali-G1 Ultra MC12 GPU. Both models come with 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage in 256GB or 512GB configurations, with the Pro also offering a 1TB option. Both run Android 16 with HyperOS 3 out of the box.
Leica cameras on both, with a catch

Xiaomi made a notable decision with the cameras this time around — the 5x optical periscope telephoto lens is not a Pro exclusive. Both the 17T and 17T Pro pack the same 50MP telephoto shooter with 5x optical zoom, a 115mm equivalent focal length, f/1.8 aperture, OIS, and support for 10x optical-quality zoom and up to 120x Ultra AI Zoom.
Where the two models differ is the main sensor. The 17T uses a 50MP Light Fusion 800 (1/1.55-inch, f/1.77), while the Pro upgrades to the larger 50MP Light Fusion 950 (1/1.31-inch, f/1.6) — the same sensor found in the flagship Xiaomi 17. The ultrawide camera is identical across both: 12MP, f/2.2, 120-degree field of view. Selfie duties are handled by a 32MP f/2.2 shooter on both.

On the video side, both models support 8K@30fps, 4K@120fps, slow-motion at 1080p@960fps, and 10-bit Rec. 2020 with HDR10+ recording.
Battery life is a serious talking point

The 17T packs a 6500mAh cell with 67W wired fast charging, while the 17T Pro goes further with a 7000mAh battery, 100W wired charging, and 50W wireless charging — a combination that is genuinely rare at this price segment.
Build and durability
Design-wise, both phones carry the familiar rounded square camera module seen on the 15T series. The 17T measures 157.6 × 75.2 × 8.17mm and weighs 200g with a plastic back and metal frame. The 17T Pro is larger at 162.2 × 77.5 × 8.25mm and weighs 219g, featuring a 6M13 aluminium alloy frame for added rigidity. Both carry IP68 certification, rated for submersion up to 3 metres for 30 minutes. Colour options are the same across both: Blue, Black, and Purple.
Connectivity and extras
Both models support Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, dual nano-SIM plus dual eSIM, and multi-constellation GPS with L1+L5 dual-band support. Audio comes via Dolby Atmos stereo speakers with Hi-Res 24-bit/192kHz support, though there is no 3.5mm headphone jack.
