Malaysians travelling to China, Hong Kong SAR, South Korea, the Philippines and Laos can now use supported local banking apps to pay at participating Alipay+ merchants through DuitNow QR.
PayNet announced the outbound connection on 28 October 2026. Launch banks are Maybank, CIMB and Hong Leong Bank, with Bank Islam expected to join later.
How to pay overseas
At an eligible merchant, open the DuitNow QR payment function in a supported banking app and scan the merchant code displaying the Alipay+ logo. Review the payment details and confirm within the same app.
A separate Alipay+ account or additional payment app is not required for this route. However, the launch does not mean every bank or every merchant QR code in those destinations is supported.
Check the bank and merchant before paying
For travellers, the useful change is the ability to keep using a familiar Malaysian banking app. Before relying on the service abroad, check that your bank supports it and that the merchant participates.
Review the currency conversion, final amount and any applicable bank terms before confirming. PayNet’s announcement does not set out a universal exchange rate or fee schedule for every participating bank, so users should check their own provider’s information.
Payments in the other direction
This builds on a connection that already lets supported overseas Alipay+ wallets pay Malaysian DuitNow QR merchants. The new service extends that arrangement to Malaysian bank customers spending abroad.
PayNet says additional markets will be introduced progressively. Bank Islam’s upcoming participation should also widen the choice of banking apps, although a specific joining date was not given in the announcement.
