Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 Brings Modest Spec Boost, 4K Gaming & AI Upgrades

Qualcomm has officially launched the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, a fresh addition to its mid-range SoC lineup that brings incremental but meaningful upgrades, especially for gamers and mobile AI users.

The chip maintains the same 1 + 3 + 4 Kryo CPU architecture but bumps the prime Cortex-A720 core up to 2.7 GHz—contributing to an overall \~7 percent gain in both CPU and GPU performance compared to its 7s Gen 3 predecessor.

Equipped with an upgraded Adreno GPU, the platform pairs better graphics stability and quality—again reflecting around a 7% improvement ([9to5Google][1], [Android Central][2]). Where the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 notably advances is in its display capabilities: it now supports ultra-wide screens up to 2,900 × 1,300 pixels at a smooth 144 Hz refresh rate, enhancing visuals for handheld gaming and emulation devices.

The chipset embraces Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Elite Gaming suite, including Adaptive Performance Engine 3.0 and Game Super Resolution, which together help maintain frame-rate consistency while boosting image fidelity.

Imaging capabilities receive a significant upgrade with the latest-generation Spectra ISP, now capable of capturing up to 200-megapixel still images and recording 4K video at 30 fps, with support for high-dynamic-range formats like HLG, HDR10, and HDR10+, well suited to Malaysia’s growing interest in night-scene and Vlog-style mobile photography.

On the AI front, the Hexagon NPU in the new platform enables on-device inferencing for lightweight large language models such as Llama 1B and Qwen 1B, fueling real-time translation and improved photography algorithms—features particularly appealing in bilingual or multilingual environments.

Connectivity is further enhanced with support for Sub-6GHz 5G (including Malaysia’s Band n78), Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, and audio enhancements including aptX Lossless and aptX Adaptive.

The chip also supports LPDDR5 at 3200 MHz, UFS 3.1 storage, and Quick Charge 4+ fast charging.
