Huawei just officially launched one of its biggest smartphone milestones in recent years, the Huawei Pura 90s Pro series, and the global launch happened right here in Kuala Lumpur!
Huawei held its official launch event for the Pura 90s series in Kuala Lumpur today, marking the newest flagship lineup following last year’s Pura 80 series. For Malaysia, the brand is bringing in two models this round — the Pura 90s Pro and Pura 90s Pro Max.
The reason this counts as a milestone is because ever since that whole saga a few years back, Huawei’s international phones haven’t been able to support 5G. This time around, they finally can, and Huawei’s even proudly showing off the chipset powering it, the Kirin 9030s.

That said, the camera is still the real selling point here. The Pro Max comes with a 200MP ultra-large sensor telephoto lens, packing a 1/1.28-inch sensor and F2.6 aperture, supporting 4x optical zoom (roughly a 96mm equivalent focal length) and up to 100x digital zoom, paired with the True-to-Colour Camera 2.0 system. Huawei’s own line for it is “what you see is what you get.”

The Pro version instead gets an Ultra Lighting Macro Telephoto camera, with a minimum focus distance of just 5cm, so it’s got the edge for close-up shots of small objects, flowers, or insects. Both models also support AI composition, AI De-glare, and AI Move editing tools, which are pretty fun to play around with.
On the display side, the Pura 90s Pro Max uses a 6.9-inch LTPO OLED screen (since it’s a rounded-corner design, the actual diagonal is about 6.87 inches, and the visible area is slightly smaller than the stated size). It supports a 1-120Hz adaptive high dynamic refresh rate along with high-frequency PWM dimming, so your eyes should feel more comfortable during extended screen time.

The Pro Max also gets Anti-Reflection and Scratch-Resistant Kunlun Glass, with Huawei’s own data claiming a 70% reduction in glare and 16x better scratch resistance.
Resolution comes in at 2880 × 1308 pixels with a 460 ppi pixel density, supporting 1.07 billion colours, so details and colour transitions should look noticeably smoother in photos and videos. The touch sampling rate also goes up to 300Hz, which should make scrolling and gaming feel a lot more responsive. Overall, this is a pretty solid display spec sheet for a flagship phone.
Both models pack a 6,000mAh battery. The Pro Max supports 100W wired HUAWEI SuperCharge plus wireless charging, while the Pro gets 66W wired charging — either way, both should comfortably get you through a full day of use.

Software-wise, it’s running EMUI 16 based on Android 16, with the Celia AI assistant built in to help with navigation, booking rides, setting reminders, and answering everyday questions — a pretty deep integration of AI features.

Design-wise, Huawei’s going with a gradient colourway this time. The Pro comes in four “fruit soda” shades — Guava Soda, Orange Soda, Coconut White, and Mulberry Black — while the Pro Max offers Orange Ocean, Blush Gold, Blaze Purple, and Graphite Black. Honestly, they do look pretty appealing.
As for pricing, the Huawei Pura 90s Pro Max 12GB+512GB is currently listed on the official store at RM4,899. There’s also an early bird pre-order promo running — a RM100 deposit gets you up to RM300 off for the Pro or up to RM400 off for the Pro Max, with the balance payment window open from 3pm today until 11:59pm on 31 July, so keep an eye on the dates if you’re planning to grab one.
Meanwhile, the Huawei Pura 90s Pro comes in two storage options — 12GB+256GB and 12GB+512GB — priced at RM3,699 and RM3,999 respectively.
One thing worth flagging though: both phones run without Google services out of the box, so if you rely on apps like Google Play or Gmail daily, you’ll need to sideload them or find alternatives. That’s probably something a fair number of buyers will want to weigh before deciding.
