Apple iPhone 17 Series Launched — Air Makes its Debut, Vanilla Gets ProMotion

Apple officially unveiled the iPhone 17 lineup at its September 10, 2025 Special Event, introducing four models: iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Air, and iPhone 17.

iPhone 17 Pro / Pro Max

The iPhone 17 Pro Max leads the range with a new horizontal camera bar housing three 48‑megapixel lenses — wide, ultra‑wide, and a movable periscope telephoto capable of up to 8× optical zoom.

The new Pro Camera app offers expanded manual controls, simultaneous front‑and‑rear recording, and 8K video capture.

Its 6.9‑inch LTPO OLED display supports a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and features an anti‑reflective, scratch‑resistant coating. Powered by Apple’s A19 Pro chip built on TSMC’s 3 nm process, it supports Wi‑Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3.

It comes with first-ever vapor‑chamber cooling system in an iPhone, primarily to maintain performance under sustained load.

Color options include black, white, gray, navy blue, and a special‑edition orange.

The iPhone 17  Pro shares the Pro Max’s core upgrades in a more compact 6.3‑inch form factor with narrower bezels and reduced weight.

It retains the triple 48‑megapixel camera system with 8× optical zoom, the Pro Camera app, and the same anti‑reflective M14 OLED panel.

It also runs on the A19 Pro chip and includes vapor‑chamber cooling. Estimated battery capacity is around 3,700 mAh.

As for available colors, it match those of the Pro Max.

iPhone 17 Air

The iPhone 17 Air replaces the Plus series, focusing on portability with a thickness of just 5.5 mm and a weight of about 145 g.

It features an in-between screen size of 6.6‑inch LTPO OLED display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and a customized A19 Pro chip with slightly reduced GPU cores.

The rear camera is a single 48‑megapixel wide lens, paired with a 24‑megapixel front camera.

To get to this super thin and lightweight design, battery capacity takes a huge hit compared to other models, with it only lasting around.

Available colors are black, white, light gold, and sky blue.

iPhone 17

The standard iPhone 17 sees one of its biggest upgrades in years, moving from a 60 Hz LCD to a 6.3‑inch Super Retina OLED panel with a fixed 120 Hz refresh rate. It runs on the A19 chip and starts at 128 GB of storage.

The rear cameras system combines a 48‑megapixel wide camera with a 12‑megapixel ultra‑wide, while the front camera is upgraded to 24 megapixels.

It is available in black, white, steel gray, green, purple, and light blue.

All four models support Apple’s in‑house Wi‑Fi 7 chip, Bluetooth 5.3, and the new Qi2 wireless charging standard (up to 25 W).

Apple’s keynote also highlighted the iPhone 17 series’ A19 chip and the phones’ AI computing capabilities, stating that they have been further enhanced to run a wide range of useful AI features faster and with greater accuracy.

In more markets, the physical SIM tray has been removed in favor of eSIM. Malaysians still have the choice of physical SIM, luckily.
