Apple has officially kicked off its 2026 product cycle with the introduction of the second-generation AirTag.
This marks the first significant update to the tracking accessory since its debut in 2021. While the exterior maintains the familiar disc-shaped industrial design, the internal components have received substantial upgrades focused on connectivity and localization efficiency.
The primary technical advancement is the integration of a new second-generation Ultra Wideband (UWB) chip, aligning its hardware capabilities with the iPhone 17 series and Apple Watch Series 11.

This silicon upgrade extends the “Precision Finding” range by approximately 50%, allowing users to detect and navigate toward lost items from a greater distance indoors.
Auditory performance has also been addressed in this iteration. The built-in speaker is now 50% louder than the original model, featuring updated ringtone patterns designed to cut through background noise or muffled environments like couch cushions.

Complementing this is an upgraded Bluetooth chip that strengthens the baseline connection to the Find My network.
In terms of ecosystem integration, the AirTag 2 now supports direct tracking via Apple Watch Series 9, Ultra 2, and newer models. This allows users to receive haptic and visual guidance directly on their wrist without needing to reach for a phone.
Despite the internal changes, Apple has retained several core specifications. The device continues to use a user-replaceable CR2032 battery with an estimated lifespan of over one year.
It also keeps its IP67 dust and water resistance rating. Crucially for existing users, the physical dimensions remain identical to the first generation, ensuring that all current clips, keyrings, and accessories remain fully compatible.
In Malaysia, the second-generation AirTag is priced at RM129 for a single unit and RM429 for a four-pack, maintaining the same price point as its predecessor.
Pre-orders are currently open on the Apple Malaysia official website and the Apple Store app, where customers can also opt for free personalized engraving.
