Apple has officially unveiled the second-generation AirPods Max 2 over-ear wireless headphones, marking the first major hardware refresh since the original model’s debut in late 2020.
Announced via a press release on March 16, 2026, the new iteration introduces the H2 chip as its core upgrade, delivering substantial enhancements in audio performance, noise cancellation, and intelligent features aligned with Apple’s latest ecosystem advancements.
Powered by the H2 chip and refined computational audio algorithms, the AirPods Max 2 achieve up to 1.5 times more effective Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) compared to the predecessor, thanks to optimized microphone arrays and processing.
Transparency mode has been refined for a more lifelike passthrough of ambient sounds. Audio quality sees notable improvements with high-dynamic-range amplifiers and Apple-designed dynamic drivers, supporting Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking.
Wired connectivity via USB-C now enables 24-bit/48kHz lossless audio playback along with ultra-low latency, catering to audiophiles, music producers, and creators. Additional practical additions include studio-grade audio recording capabilities and camera remote control integration.
