Apple AirPods Max 2 Launched in Malaysia at RM2299: H2 Chip, 1.5x Better ANC & Smart Features

Apple has officially unveiled the second-generation AirPods Max 2 over-ear wireless headphones, marking the first major hardware refresh since the original model’s debut in late 2020.

Announced via a press release on March 16, 2026, the new iteration introduces the H2 chip as its core upgrade, delivering substantial enhancements in audio performance, noise cancellation, and intelligent features aligned with Apple’s latest ecosystem advancements.

Powered by the H2 chip and refined computational audio algorithms, the AirPods Max 2 achieve up to 1.5 times more effective Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) compared to the predecessor, thanks to optimized microphone arrays and processing.

Transparency mode has been refined for a more lifelike passthrough of ambient sounds. Audio quality sees notable improvements with high-dynamic-range amplifiers and Apple-designed dynamic drivers, supporting Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking.

Wired connectivity via USB-C now enables 24-bit/48kHz lossless audio playback along with ultra-low latency, catering to audiophiles, music producers, and creators. Additional practical additions include studio-grade audio recording capabilities and camera remote control integration.

A key focus of the update lies in smart audio interactions, bringing parity with recent AirPods Pro models.

Features include Adaptive Audio, which dynamically blends ANC and Transparency based on surroundings; Conversation Awareness, which lowers volume and enhances nearby voices during talks; Voice Isolation for clearer calls by suppressing background noise; and Live Translation powered by Apple Intelligence for real-time cross-language interpretation in face-to-face conversations. These additions transform the headphones into a more versatile daily audio companion beyond pure music listening.

AirPods Max 2

Design-wise, the AirPods Max 2 largely retains the signature aluminum ear cups, mesh canopy headband, Digital Crown controls, and detachable Smart Case, with no changes to weight or overall comfort. The refresh expands color choices to midnight, starlight, orange, purple, and blue for a fresher aesthetic.

In Malaysia, Apple has priced the AirPods Max 2 at RM2299, representing a modest reduction of around RM200 from the longstanding RM2499 of the prior generation. The product page on Apple’s Malaysian site currently indicates “coming soon” or “check back later for availability,” with pre-orders scheduled to begin on March 25, 2026, and general availability expected in early April. Purchase options include free delivery, 0% installment plans up to 24 months, and eligibility for AppleCare+ extended coverage.

This release arrives amid ongoing competition in the premium over-ear segment from brands like Sony and Bose. While the AirPods Max 2 skips a major redesign or weight reduction, the integration of the H2 chip and advanced AI-driven features positions it as a compelling evolution for users invested in Apple’s ecosystem who prioritize seamless integration, superior noise management, and emerging intelligent audio tools.
