PROTON X50 Sport Edition Launches With 15 Upgrades for an Extra RM1,999

PROTON X50 Sport Edition with black styling and red accents

PROTON has officially launched the All-New PROTON X50 Sport Edition (SE) in Malaysia, adding 15 exterior and interior enhancements to the Flagship model for an additional RM1,999. The package brings black exterior details, red accents and a matching cabin treatment while retaining the Flagship’s engine, connectivity and driver assistance features.

With bookings opened on 8 October 2026, the Sport Edition is a styling package for the X50 Flagship rather than a separate vehicle variant. PROTON values the enhancements at RM7,000.

Malaysia pricing: from RM102,299 with October rebate

PROTON lists the following on-the-road prices without insurance, after an October 2026 rebate of up to RM13,000. Adding the RM1,999 Sport Edition package produces these totals:

Model / package Peninsular Malaysia East Malaysia
X50 1.5TD Flagship, after rebate RM100,300 RM102,300
Sport Edition package +RM1,999 +RM1,999
Flagship with Sport Edition package RM102,299 RM104,299

The combined totals above are calculated from PROTON’s published Flagship prices and package charge. Rebate eligibility and other terms apply, so buyers should confirm the final quotation with an authorised dealer.

Black styling, red accents and exclusive cabin details

The exterior changes include black upper front garnish, front side-port trim, lower bumper garnish and rear side-port trim. Black 18-inch alloy wheels, dedicated front, side and rear skirtings, and a Sport Edition emblem complete the look.

Inside, the black cabin receives red stitching on the steering wheel, armrest, door trims and seats. The front seats feature Sport Edition embroidery, while TPE floor mats, exclusive floor detailing and metal door scuff plates add further distinctions.

According to PROTON, the enhancements underwent more than 13,700 hours of testing covering durability, corrosion resistance, UV resistance and suitability for Malaysia’s tropical climate.

181 PS engine and wireless smartphone connectivity

The Sport Edition retains the Flagship’s i-GT 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, producing 181 PS and 290 Nm, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The announcement does not specify a performance increase for the package.

A 14.6-inch infotainment display supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The equipment list also includes the “Hi PROTON” voice command system and PROTON Link 2.0.

Safety and parking equipment includes 15 ADAS features, Auto Park Assist, a 360-degree HD camera with 180-degree Transparent View, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

PROTON Link 2.0 adds smartwatch controls

PROTON Link 2.0 lets owners access selected vehicle functions and information from their smartphones, including vehicle location, fuel level, estimated range, alerts and trip history.

The app also works with selected HUAWEI smartwatches running HarmonyOS. Supported functions include engine start and stop, air-conditioning control, door locking and unlocking, window operation, boot access, and horn and light activation. Compatibility depends on the supported watch.

Availability and ownership benefits

The X50 Sport Edition is available through authorised PROTON dealerships nationwide. The ownership package includes a five-year unlimited-mileage warranty, free labour for six services and a five-year in-car data allowance of 2GB per month, subject to terms and conditions.

For buyers already considering the Flagship, the RM1,999 package provides a coordinated styling upgrade while keeping its existing mechanical and technology equipment. Read our earlier X50 launch coverage for more background on the SUV.
