UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has officially opened order books for the all-new Toyota Yaris Cross in Malaysia, with estimated pricing starting from RM99,900.
The B-segment SUV serves as the more premium sibling to the Perodua Traz, sharing the same Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform but stepping up significantly in equipment and powertrain options.

Both sit on the same platform as the Traz, with identical body dimensions of 4,310mm in length, 1,770mm in width, and a 2,525mm wheelbase — though the Yaris Cross comes in at 1,615mm tall, 40mm lower than its Perodua counterpart.
Under the bonnet, the 1.5S is powered by a 2NR-VE 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine producing 106PS and 138Nm, paired with Daihatsu’s D-CVT (Dual-Mode CVT) driving the front wheels.

The more interesting option is the 1.5S HEV, which uses a 2NR-VEX 1.5-litre Atkinson Cycle engine producing 91PS and 121Nm on its own, supplemented by a drive motor (80PS/141Nm) and a separate generator motor, for a combined system output of 111PS through an e-CVT.

Toyota claims a fuel consumption figure as low as 3.6 L/km for the HEV, which also supports an EV Mode for short-distance electric-only driving and replenishes its battery through Regenerative Braking — no plug-in required.

Both variants come standard with a 7-inch TFT LCD digital instrument cluster with four display modes, a 10.1-inch floating infotainment touchscreen with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Adaptive High Beam, and blue ambient interior lighting.
The full Toyota Safety Sense ADAS suite — including autonomous emergency braking and lane departure warning — is also standard across both variants, which is a notable upgrade over the Traz. The HEV gets a Wireless Phone Charger as standard, while petrol buyers can add it for RM380. A rear Digital Video Recorder is optionable on both variants at RM380.
Five exterior colours are available for both variants: Dark Turquoise, Silver Metallic, Attitude Black, Spicy Scarlet SE, and Platinum Pearl White (the latter at an additional RM400).
Two variants are on offer: the 1.5S petrol at RM99,900 and the 1.5S HEV at RM109,900.

On the warranty front, both variants come with a five-year unlimited mileage warranty. The HEV additionally carries an eight-year unlimited mileage hybrid component warranty covering the battery, inverter, and power management ECU, with an option to extend a further two years for RM2,500.
Service packages are available for both variants — three years/60,000km at RM2,350, or five years/100,000km at RM3,650.
Compared to the Perodua Traz, which ranges from RM76,100 to RM82,000, the Yaris Cross commands a premium of roughly RM18,000 to RM28,000 depending on variant. That gap buys you a fuller ADAS suite, more premium equipment, and crucially, access to a hybrid powertrain that the Traz currently does not offer.
