Tesla Model Y L Launches in Malaysia: 6-Seater Long-Wheelbase EV Priced from RM260,000

Tesla Malaysia has officially unveiled the Tesla Model Y L at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, bringing its long-wheelbase, six-seat electric SUV to the local market for the first time. While a final confirmed price has yet to be announced, Tesla has put forward an indicative starting price of RM260,000, with customer deliveries expected to commence in the second quarter of 2026.

Originally launched in China in August 2025, the Model Y L is a stretched variant of the standard Model Y built around a three-row, six-seat configuration. The extended body measures 4,976mm in length and rides on a 3,040mm wheelbase — 150mm longer than the regular car — while the roofline has been raised by 44mm to free up headroom for third-row passengers. Despite the added size and a kerb weight of 2,088kg, a redesigned rear end and revised boot lid spoiler have brought the drag coefficient down to 0.216, making it the most aerodynamically efficient Model Y to date.

Under the hood, the Model Y L is powered by a dual-motor All-Wheel Drive setup producing 340kW (456hp) and 567Nm of torque, delivering a WLTP-rated range of 681km. DC fast charging is supported at up to 250kW, enabling roughly 288km of range to be recovered in just 15 minutes via a Tesla Supercharger. AC charging is capped at 11kW. The Model Y L also gains Powershare (V2L) capability, though the required Tesla Outlet Adapter is not yet available in Malaysia.

Inside, the front seats have been redesigned with integrated headrests and power-extendable thigh support. The second row features captain seats with ventilation, heating, power recline, and motorised armrests that automatically lower when the rear door is opened, providing aisle access to the third row without the need to slide the seats forward. Third-row seats offer heating, electronic recline adjustment, dedicated air vents, USB-C ports, and cupholders — ventilation, however, is not included.

The audio system steps up to an 18-speaker, one-subwoofer setup, and the wireless charging pad delivers 50W and 30W output with active cooling. The Model Y L also gains adaptive damping — previously exclusive to the Performance variant among local Model Y offerings — with Balanced and Rear Comfort modes available.

The 16-inch front centre touchscreen and 8-inch second-row display carry over from the standard Model Y. A new exclusive Cosmic Silver paint option joins the lineup alongside the existing Stealth Grey (standard), Pearl White Multi-Coat, Diamond Black, Glacier Blue, and Ultra Red. All variants ride on 19-inch Machina 2.0 alloy wheels. Interior choices include the standard Black trim or the optional Zen Grey colourway.

Enhanced Autopilot and Full Self-Driving (FSD) will be offered as paid add-ons, though FSD’s full autonomous feature set remains unavailable in Malaysia for the time being. Tesla says its local online configurator for the Model Y L will go live shortly, allowing customers to finalise their specifications and place orders.
