After more than three years of absence, Huawei’s flagship Mate series has made its much-anticipated return to the international market, with Malaysia officially welcoming the all-new Huawei Mate 80 Pro today.
The last time we saw a Mate series phone here was the Mate 50 Pro back in 2022, making this comeback all the more significant. The Malaysian variant comes in a single configuration — 16GB RAM and 512GB internal storage powered by the Kirin 9030 chipset, with no microSD card expansion support.

Design-wise, the Mate 80 Pro sports Huawei’s distinctive Dual Space Rings camera ring design that oozes premium craftsmanship. The phone measures 161.85 x 76 x 7.95mm and weighs approximately 219g, protected by second-generation Kunlun Glass. It also carries both IP68 (submersible up to 6 metres for 30 minutes) and IP69 (resistant to high-pressure, 80°C hot water jets) certifications.

On the display front, the Mate 80 Pro features a HUAWEI X-True 6.75-inch LTPO OLED panel with 1.5K resolution, peak brightness of 3,000 nits, adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120Hz, 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, and a 300Hz touch sampling rate for a smooth and responsive experience.

Camera-wise, the Mate 80 Pro is equipped with Huawei’s True-to-Colour second-generation Red Maple Imaging system. The triple rear camera setup includes a 50MP main shooter with a variable aperture of F1.4 to F4.0 (10 physical stops), OIS, and an RYYB sensor; a 40MP ultra-wide camera at F2.2 also with an RYYB sensor; and a 48MP macro telephoto lens at F2.1 with OIS, supporting 4x optical zoom, 8x optical-quality zoom, and up to 100x digital zoom. Up front, there’s a 13MP selfie camera paired with a 3D depth sensor.
Camera features include AI Motion Photos, Action Snapshot, Movie Effects, Super Night Mode, Super Macro, and Video HDR Vivid.

Battery life should not be a concern either — the Mate 80 Pro packs a 5,750mAh cell with support for 100W SuperCharge wired fast charging and 80W wireless fast charging, along with both wired and wireless reverse charging.

It is worth noting that the Malaysian variant only supports 4G connectivity and runs on EMUI 15, with apps downloaded via the Huawei AppGallery. Some China-exclusive features such as Beidou satellite messaging and HarmonyOS 6 are not available on this version.

Priced at RM3,999 for the 16GB + 512GB configuration, the Mate 80 Pro positions itself as one of the most aggressively priced high-spec flagship phones currently available in Malaysia.
The phone comes in Gold, Green, and Black.
Early bird buyers stand to receive a gift bundle worth up to RM2,115, which includes a Huawei MatePad 11.5 tablet and a Huawei Premium Services package covering one year of accidental damage warranty, two years of screen protector replacement, and three years of battery replacement. The Mate 80 Pro also comes with an Asia-Pacific-wide warranty for added peace of mind when travelling.
Customers can also enjoy additional premium AppGallery benefits worth up to RM1,565, including exclusive deals from brands such as Kiehl’s, Wilson, Salomon, DurianBB, ANTA and OGAWA, alongside Shopee PayLater offers of 10% off with a minimum spend of RM600 at selected HUAWEI Experience Stores.

HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 5 TWS also made its official Malaysian debut today.

This flagship true wireless earbud features a dual-driver acoustic system, supporting high-resolution lossless audio transmission. The setup delivers deeper bass and clearer high-frequency detail, positioning it among the more impressive audio specifications in its category.
On the noise-cancellation front, the FreeBuds Pro 5 is equipped with Dual-Engine AI Noise Cancellation, which intelligently detects surrounding conditions and dynamically adjusts suppression levels. According to Huawei, the system can handle environments with noise levels of up to 100dB and wind speeds reaching 10 m/s.
For battery life, the earbuds offer up to 9 hours of playback on a single charge, extending to 38 hours when used with the charging case.
In Malaysia, the FreeBuds Pro 5 is available in Grey, White, and Gold color options, priced at RM699. Purchases also include a one-year Loss Care protection plan worth RM59, providing coverage against accidental loss.
