AI.com Domain Sells for Record $70 Million, Malaysian Entrepreneur Behind Historic Sale

AI.com

Crypto.com co-founder and CEO Kris Marszalek acquired the AI.com domain for $70 million in an all-cryptocurrency transaction, more than doubling the previous record of $30 million set by Voice.com in 2019, making it the highest publicly disclosed domain sale in history. The deal was brokered by domain broker Larry Fischer of GetYourDomain.

According to multiple investigations, the seller is believed to be Malaysian entrepreneur Arsyan Ismail. Arsyan Ismail is a prominent figure in Malaysia’s tech scene, having been involved in various startup ventures including Kawanster.com, Malaysia’s first social network. Domain researchers reached this conclusion by analyzing Cloudflare DNS configurations and domain ownership records.

Marszalek plans to officially launch the AI.com platform through an advertisement during this Sunday’s Super Bowl game, offering personal AI agent services to help users send messages, use applications, and trade stocks among other functions. Marszalek revealed he purchased the domain in April this year and has since assembled a development team, aiming to provide accessible AI agent services for non-technical users.

Marszalek disclosed that he has received numerous offers to purchase the domain, but intends to keep it to build a business and brand. He believes owning such a premium domain helps avoid commoditization in the highly competitive AI market. Marszalek previously acquired the Crypto.com domain, reportedly valued between $5 million and $10 million at the time, and the company has since grown into one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges with over 150 million retail users.

Industry experts note that category-defining domains like AI.com command premium prices due to their scarcity and irreplaceability. For AI sector companies, owning such a short and intuitive domain can save substantial marketing costs and provide significant advantages in brand building.
