Xiaomi Launches HyperOS 3: Major Performance and Interface Enhancements
Xiaomi has officially announced and released HyperOS 3, just one day after its surprise teaser. The update arrives one month earlier than the Xiaomi 16 series flagship launch, with rollout beginning on August 29 for the Xiaomi 15 and Redmi K80 series.
According to the company, HyperOS 3 introduces upgrades in performance optimization, system interaction, cross-ecosystem connectivity, and AI capabilities, with the goal of refining the experience ahead of the next flagship release.
Performance Boost and System Optimization
HyperOS 3 is built on Xiaomi’s self-developed kernel technology platform. It leverages integrated frequency tuning and micro-architecture pipeline optimizations, resulting in a 19% increase in task execution efficiency. CPU instruction counts are reduced by 4%, improving energy efficiency by 10%.
For graphics, the system introduces window rendering sinking and pipeline pre-compilation, reducing flicker and frame drops. Over 100 system animations have also been optimized across multiple device categories, including smartphones, tablets, TVs, and wearables.
New Features in User Interface
One of the most anticipated updates, “Super Island”, makes its debut. The feature supports three dynamic islands running simultaneously, allowing users to view notifications, services, and device status in the foreground. It also supports quick actions, small window interactions, and drag-and-share gestures.
UI improvements include:
-
New custom fonts to display more information in limited space.
-
Lock screen editor with templates, fonts, calendars, and weather customization.
-
AI dynamic wallpapers with nine stylized effects.
-
Centered large clock design as the default lock screen.
-
Redesigned app icons, unified color scheme, cleaner status bar.
-
Photo album upgrades, including custom sorting, pet recognition, and cross-device sharing.
AI Assistant Upgrade: “Super XiaoAi”
Xiaomi’s AI assistant has been upgraded to “Super XiaoAi”, now acting as a full ecosystem intelligent assistant. It can be activated through voice, text, screen selection, or quick shortcuts, and integrates a side toolbar for seamless use.
The assistant supports contextual recommendations, enabling one-tap execution of complex tasks. At launch, it works with 20+ third-party apps, with expansion to 80 apps and 1,000+ functions planned by the end of September.
Cross-Ecosystem Connectivity
HyperOS 3 significantly enhances Xiaomi’s multi-device ecosystem:
-
iPhone users can receive and reply to Xiaomi phone messages (WeChat, QQ).
-
iPad users can mirror and control the Xiaomi phone interface.
-
Mac devices support resizable multi-window app experiences.
-
Cross-device unlock, cloud photo syncing, and NFC-based sharing (photos, videos, Wi-Fi passwords) are also supported.
Security and Privacy Enhancements
The update adds dual authentication, advanced data protection, and end-to-end encryption for both local and cloud data. A new secure access control system allows file-level permission management. Users can also locate devices when powered off or offline, improving recovery chances in case of loss.
