2026 Proton S70 Launched: 181PS 4-Cylinder Engine, Prices From RM68,800

Proton has officially unveiled the refreshed 2026 Proton S70 on February 11, introducing significant mechanical improvements to Malaysia’s popular C-segment sedan. The updated model represents the first major upgrade since the S70’s initial launch in November 2023, with over 38,000 units already sold to date.

The most substantial change arrives in the form of an all-new powertrain. Proton has discontinued the previous 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine in favor of a BHE15-EFZ 1.5-liter i-GT turbocharged four-cylinder unit, developed jointly with Geely. This new engine incorporates Miller cycle technology, dual variable valve timing, and an electric water pump to deliver 181 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 290 Nm of torque from 2,000 to 3,500 rpm. The improvements translate to a 31-horsepower and 64-Nm increase over the outgoing powerplant.

Performance figures show notable gains, with the 0-100 km/h sprint now completed in 7.5 seconds, a 2.1-second improvement. The recalibrated seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission contributes to fuel consumption of 5.7 liters per 100 km, marking an 8.1 percent efficiency improvement. Proton also notes that maintenance costs should decrease thanks to the switch from a timing belt to a toothed timing chain.

Four variants are available: Executive, Premium, Flagship, and Flagship X, with official pricing set at RM73,800, RM79,800, RM89,800, and RM94,800 respectively. However, the first 2,000 customers who register their vehicles by March 31, 2026, will receive a RM5,000 early bird discount, bringing prices down to RM68,800, RM74,800, RM84,800, and RM89,800.

Visual updates include redesigned LED headlights with repositioned turn signals now housed in separate bulb units rather than integrated into the daytime running lights. Flagship models receive new 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels fitted with Giti F22 tires. The top-spec Flagship X adds a sportier appearance through a body kit comprising a front lip with side canards, diffuser-style rear skirt, and bootlid spoiler. Six color options are offered, including the newly introduced Ruby Red, alongside Quartz Black, Snow White, Armour Silver, Marine Blue, and Space Grey. Buyers selecting Quartz Black or Snow White can opt for Storm Red accent trim, while other colors come with Matte Black detailing.

Technology upgrades vary across the range. Entry-level Executive and Premium variants continue with an 8-inch screen and analog instrument cluster. Flagship and Flagship X models step up to a 10.25-inch digital instrument display paired with a 12.3-inch touchscreen, now featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

The flagship variant adds practical features including a front dashcam, 360-degree surround-view camera, wireless charging, and six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat.

Safety equipment is comprehensive across all variants, with six airbags, ABS, ESC, hill-hold assist, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, and rear collision warning coming as standard.

Flagship and Flagship X models receive a full Level 2 ADAS package encompassing 13 features such as autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and intelligent cruise control.

Beyond the early bird rebate, Proton is offering financing plans extending up to nine years with interest rates starting at 2.25 percent. The government’s vehicle scrappage scheme provides an additional RM4,000 discount for vehicles over 20 years old, split equally between government and manufacturer contributions. Each purchase includes a five-year unlimited mileage warranty, five-year connectivity package with 2GB monthly data allowance, and eight complimentary scheduled service sessions.

The 2026 Proton S70 is now open for booking at authorized Proton 3S and 4S dealerships nationwide with a RM500 deposit. All prices quoted are on-the-road without insurance.
